Day 24: Zion to Pioche, NV

October 22, 2013

Last view of Zion
We left Zion National Park early this morning even though we technically only had about 3 hours drive to our nights digs, Pioche City Park in Pioche, Nevada.  More on that later.

The speed limit north of St. George on route 15 is a life threatening 80 mpg.  I don't think anyone was going that fast; I know we were not.

ALWAYS when we leave a campground after staying a few days, it becomes errand day.  In this case there were a few.  Our first stop was barely out of Zion when we saw a veggie stand with FRESH veggies.  I am mostly a vegetarian and almost a vegan so when I see veggies I have to stop.  I scored 3 bags of assorted lettuce greens and 2 bags of kale--I bought them out of both!  They were organic as well...even better!

Our next stop was Walmart in Cedar City, Utah and Home Depot.  David wanted to replace the the foam gasket on the screen door which has been rattling like crazy ever since we had it.  We have been squeezing paper nuggets into the space to try and calm it down.  WOW, what a difference a gasket made...it is now quiet and David is happy.  Oh, but wait, now he heard the frying pan rattling in the stove...   Then gas to top off our tank in the same complex.

This is pretty crumbly stuff!
Our route took is west of Cedar City on route 56 and then into Nevada.  nice ride with only one or two cars behind us.

View from Miller's Look Out

Cathedral Gorge State Park/Nevada was on the way so we decided to stop there.  We took a walk to Millers look out (we entered park at the south entrance) so it was 2 miles round trip.  A shorts day as the weather was pretty hot with only a light breeze.  Nice walk along a wash and up some steps and stairs to the lookout.  However, if you approach from the north and turn at the sign that says Miller's Look out, you begin the trail at the lookout and go down.

Ten miles north and our parking spot tonight is the free (donations accepted) at Pioche City Park...not much of a park but nice of them to offer it up.  There are some trees along the strip of a park.  It likes there are only two of us here.
