Thurs, Sept 16 – Tolna Damn town park to Scoria Pit dispersed camping in North Dakota

Early departure from Tolna dam on “a lot of skinny ass roads through farm fields” as per David/driver.  All lands were cultivated with something or cows lived on them.  Sunflower fields as well but they were in the drying stage not beautiful stage. Bismarck, ND provided us with dump station, gas, Walmart (pick up and in store). Our camping for the next 4 nights will be Scoria Pit just outside of Theodore Roosevelt National Park.  It is, of course, free on a nice gravel road.  We picked what seemed like the last spot.  I swear people set up their trailers, fifth wheels, etc for the weekend and just leave them there.  No sign of life on some of them.  Lovely camping spot but I wish they would just all go home and leave this all to us.  There is a van across the road from us but he WAS there first.  Dinner, walk, relax.

I am ALWAYS amazed at how some of these big rigs get up these roads and wiggle themselves into spots you would not think they could get into.  BIG fifth wheels or trailer…long ones. Today I was at the top of the hill with the jeep, wiggling my way in a 8 point turn to get back down the hill and up comes David in the Motorhome (24 foot).  I am waving…stop!  No where for you to turn around.  Luckily where he stopped there was enough room for him to pull that off but it would not be the first time we did MANY point turns to get out of a situation…or using the shovel to make room….
