Day 17 Monday, Oct 14

Monday, Oct 14
Impromtu hot ditch soak this morning before taking off for Oregon; I have never been there before but there a many hot springs and the weather is complying…meaning the daytime temps are high enough to offset the low night temps. I found our short foray into Oregan pleasant…a little more golden and colorful than Nevada. Alvord Hot spring ended up being our destination to what we thought was a free Hot spring soak. Turns out it has not changed and $30 to camp, plus, plus….so NOPE. We went down the road to toad spring (just a spring and not hot but a place to park for a couple of hours to regroup). We also took JEEP out on Alvord desert playa (dried lake bed really) to play with Mali…how far could she possibly run! Since it was about 70 degrees hot and she is a black dog (okay now grey after several rolls in the dirt) she gets hot quickly. She had fun playing ball and romping with another dog (lucky for her!). It was a beautiful area really. Someday we may go further up there but for now we needed to limit. Since I had had enough and really didn’t want to be driving for several more hours, we went BACK to Bog hot spring which was maybe one hours drive to enjoy another night soak. We took a just-before-dark walk with Mali and had to reroute a bit when we saw the elusive donkeys/burros so as not to stir her up. The donkeys/burrows/mules are not elusive at Spencer Hot springs but very vocal especially if you crowd their watering hole. Deciding if we want to nudge into California (gas is more pricey but some new exploring). Committed to walking 2 miles per day, no excuses…..or more.
