Gaspe' Peninsula - Day 5 & 6

Forillon National Park
October 3:  Hiking in Forillon and walking the beaches.  I might add that in October most/many campgrounds and tourist things are closed in this part of Canada. We have seen only a couple of cars with USA plates, most are Quebec.  Have only seen a few RV’s on the road and a handful in the campground at Forillon; Forillon National Park campground closes for the season October 12th.  East of Matane to Gaspe’ towns are very small and most don’t boast all services, many have gasoline though.

Gaspe’ is large town with probably anything you would need; we didn’t need anything and didn’t stop there.  Perce’ is a small town but very much geared to the tourist for the National Park there…who come to see the rock.  Most of the roadside rest areas have no camping signs but if they do not (and we check when needed), they are game for us stopping at dusk for the night.

Overnight at a roadside rest area in the town of Grand Riviere.    After Perce' it got much easier to stay overnight in the roadside rest areas as they no longer posted no camping signs...we just had to decide which one suited us (and they were frequent).  Qualifications included: not across from people's houses and it had to have a view!

October 4:  We thought that leaving NY September 29th would mean that we would miss the fall colors but we found them in Vermont and on the Gaspe’ peninsula…in full glory..something we really didn’t count on.  Today we picked our way along route 132 and stopped at multiple beaches to walk.  Our overnight accomodations were at a rest area somewhere near New Richmond.  It had a nice scenic view and was not across the road from anyone’s home.

Check out the big fish covering the picnic area.
