Day 26: Weds, Oct 24, 2018 - BLM free camping Lockhart Road/Canyonlands

Day 26: Weds, Oct 24
Today we took JEEP for a ride.  It was our intention to take Lockhart Road up to Moab, UT (a backcountry EASY route).  Well the weather although it said no rain, was low flying clouds and lots of them.  We took off and rode for maybe ½ hour (slow going) and decided to pull the plug and go back…didn’t need washes flowing nor wet roads back there.  The Canyonlands Visitor center gave us another place to take the jeep…beef basin trailhead.

We took that 16 miles out and again slow going because we got behind cowboys/girls moving cattle up the gravel/dirt road.  Cattle don’t move fast…like a meander but we were in no hurry and got to watch the dogs work.  Mali usually a quiet girl has lots to say about cows (1/4 cattle dog) but it was short and sweet.  So it was maybe 2 miles of slow moving cows.  The cowboys pulled off and let the cattle continue on to find edibles.

We were again behind the cattle but this time they moved out of our way (wider area and no danger of cattle dropping off the side).  There were some pretty awesome views and  very few cars (maybe 5

In all).  We were looking for an arch that we never did find.  On the way back I drove while David and Mali walked for a couple of miles.  Mali was happy to have a sniff fest and move about.  David took her NEAR some cattle and she went nuts and cattle booked it away fast….men!  When done with that we checked out another PAID campground and decided we liked our spot just fine.   Dinner.  Tire out the dog with stick/ball throwing and flirt pole.  Campfire….with scavenged wood.  Full moon just popped up over the canyons…perfectly awesome and free!
