Day 1 - October 2, 2017 Commuting to the Wildest

Day 1 – October 2, 2017: We left New York’s Hudson Valley last night about 7:15 pm after participating in the Garlic Festival in Saugerties. At 11 pm we arrive at our overnight parking spot The Home Depot in Bloomsburg, PA. The other choice was a Crackerbarrel right next door but it was brightly lit. Our spot at Home Depot was wonderfully quiet.

Mali, our new (5 weeks ago) rescue who is approximately 1 year old Lab/cattle dog Mix, did great. Not a peep out of her. Thanks to Kaete for taking her for the weekend. Her and Kota had a weekend of doggy wrestling. The aim was to tire both of them out. It was a success and it pushed Kaete to her limits as well….. I cannot say Mali was the perfect house guest (barking/she is very quiet at home, mouthy with Kota and Kaete…we are working on that). Each dog set off the other…. After an uneventful ride from 6:45 am to 10pm our ONP (overnight parking) spot is at the Walmart in Ottawa, IL….another new spot for us. It was a long day. The weekend with cousin Kota didn’t tire Mali out like we had hoped (HUH?) so there Were a couple of times where she was looking for something to get into and I had to play “let me entertain you”. Imagine playing FETCH in a 24 foot class C…yup it was a big hit. By 5 pm, I told David we had to find somewhere to run her. The Walmart in Elkhardt Indiana provided such a spot. There was an automatic car wash next door that had a very nice grassy spot with no dog poop That we could run her with the long line and it served to tire her out enough. NOTE: we did not find out the cattle dog part until months later when we had her DNA done. It takes a lot to tire this girl out. But the heat does get her.
