Chance Cover Provincial Park
June 8, 2013
Awoke to temps outside of 44 and inside 48…run to turn heat on and jump back in bed until it is just warm enough!

Drive from Renew on the Avalon peninsula to…Clarenville Visitor Information Center for overnight.

Our first stop is to Chance Cove Provincial Park.  It is 3 mile drive in on a well maintained (at this writing) gravel road).  I was betting with David just how many people would be there.  He said,,” No one else but us. “  I said a conservative, “ two”. * really thought more though.  WELL, there were about eight seasonal trailers parked there and three groups of people (dav fishermen, overnight tent campers, and one seasonal/big trailer with a family).  AND, there were about nine other trailers there that were not being used this weekend but throughout the season they would be.  Despite this being a Provincial Park, Newfoundland allows people to camp there for the whole season if they wish.  The park is unmanned so you just drive in on the scenic (of course, it is Newfoundland…it is all scenic) gravel road.  So it was a big disappointing to find others there after our somewhat bumpy slow 3 miles.  We walked the beach trail and headed off.  We had a nice chat with the family staying there and one of the fisherfolk.

Barren panoramic...gorgeous scenery

The Avalon Peninsula has a heavy Irish immigrant influence (not the red hair children and language and the cemetery last names O’somethings).  The southern part is very reminiscent of Ireland with parts that have very few trees with lots of rocks.  Beauty without a lot of trees.

St. Stephen's on Avalon Peninsula
Today we went through a lot of beautiful countryside on the Avalon Peninsula…walked some beach but they are very rocky (think wave rounded rocks).

During our Next trip here, we may elect to come back and spend more time here.

There were many places we could have spent the night for free in this part of Newfoundland...free camping at its finest.  Scenice camping. boondocking in Newfoundland.
