Day 46: Sat, Nov
3
Last night around
1:30 am the wind kicked up A LOT but within a half hour it had moved somewhere
else (a good thing). But I had not
managed to go back to sleep by 3:30 am (my head was awake, never good…wouldn’t
shut up) and the wind came back with a vengeance. Some of the gust were really strong and the
sand of this area was kicking up. It was
windy enough to wake David up....and that takes a LOT. He went
outside to pull in the solar panels and check on things. I watched him out the window as dust was flying like crazy. We decided that neither of us would sleep
with that much wind smacking us around in the open area so we moved down the hill to the Little
Egypt Geological site. The site was down
hill and had more protection as opposed to being out in the open. It was 5am so to buy some sleeping time I fed
Mali hoping to buy and hour or so sleep time and she gave me 2.5 hours! I woke the wee beastie at 8:15. The wind was still blowing but not quite as
hard as last night….but we moved up to our original site where we had left the jeep and some things.
David and Mali
attempted to hike MT. Ellen (11,500 feet…the sound of me gasping for air) in
the Henry Mountains and I did not. I
don’t do well at high elevations no matter how acclimated I have become. I had a free day!
Walking, baking a double batch of chocholate muffins and napping after
last night. Unfortunately for them, too
much snow for the jeep tires made him start walking about 2 miles before the
trailhead.
When the snow got
to be a foot deep (no gators) and it was becoming to much work to just walk (while Mali
danced around on TOP of the snow…hahaha), David bailed vowing to save it for
earlier some year (and then I will go too).
We decided to not stay another night at Little Egypt because it was
still windy and we didn’t want to be blown around again. There was even sand IN the motorhome when all
windows were shut tightly. We drove from
Little Egypt and stopped quickly in Natural Bridges National Park (got rid of
some trash, took 5 gallons of water but they were closed) and it was going to
be dark soon. We had been there before. $7 on the old guy pass would have gotten us a
spot to park but we declined (no dump station). Found a suitable spot at a
cattle round up site at the corner of route 261 (moki Dugway) and route 95 and
it was less than 2 miles from the National park. Dinner, polish poker.
