Sat, Feb 15:

Elephant Butte State Park, NM

We explored a bit and found that you can camp for $10 or $20 not sure at nice, no service spots that overlook the water. These are better than ours but we also saw that in the future we could use one of those and propane is a short drive away...maybe 10 minutes. So these will be useful. We could also go out on the beach but yeah, not risking a tow. I think, if we are in the area, we could use these in the future.

Took a walk down to the beach in morning....nice. Rv's are parked on the many sand roads...some hard packed and some a bit soft.

In the afternoon we took a jeep exploration to the furthest campground to the north...South Monticello campground. Well, much better than our current or any of the other nearby ones. If we were going to stay here again (maybe if in the area), South Monticello campground will be it. Its away from everything and so as far as we can tell propane is not right nearby like here in Desert Cove Campground.

Without a pass next time for non resident it would be $35 ($20 base plus electric and water) and if no services $20 but we still have access to showers, trash, water, dump.

Another word about New Mexico state parks. They are quite scenic and so far have mostly been on lakes. They do need work in maintenance for their facitilies...dump stations and Bath houses. If you are going to charge, you need to make sure facilities are in working order...including hot showers.
