Mon, Oct 4:  Powder River Road dispersed/WY to Flaming Gorge, UT

The drive from Powder River through Wyoming was very neat.  It was down, down, down…roughly 5000 feet on a road with switchbacks and a runaway truck ramp and through Wind Canyon (again pretty scenic).  When we finally got cell phone coverage we checked weather to see where we would go.  The following week had two problems: the beginning of hunting season in Utah (think masses of hunters inhabiting many of the free dispersed…found that out last year) and a 3 day span of weather that had temps of 8, 11, 13 in northern Nevada.  We can do a night or two of high teens but we need the weather during the day to warm up substantially 40 degrees or even 50 might not be enough.  DO NOT want frozen anything.  We saved the Teton for another year, will do a few days at Flaming Gorge and then we are watching weather some more to see if that span is just 3 days or is it longer and is it a fluke.

We arrived at Flaming Gorge in time for a quick stir fry dinner watching the sun set.  After dinner we sat outside and finished watching the sunlight fade and the stars come out.  We were wondering if we would get cell phone reception and we are…its been a couple of years since we were here.  Verizon.

Oh, and the rude guy that is next to us.  I was walking along the shoreline of the reservoir waiting for David to come in with the rv (I had the jeep), when the guy next door greeted me and asked me if I was going to be camping.  Me: yes!  He said, would you mind moving over to the next area over so there is more space here.  Me: okay I can do that.  He said: it is going to get windy and that is more protected.  Me: I’ve been here before and it is not going to get windy (or not windy enough for us to worry about it).  Brassy man…not sure what he is going to do when someone else goes in there? I was not that close to him…just the next spot over blocked by a thick patch of trees.  AND it was a spot we had before that had good access to the water.  I will be going over there to have dog in water play.

As usual a 5 hour journey took all day…some slow downhills, gas, lunch stop, phone call stop after not having it for two days.
