We got going early this morning (thanks to getting David going early enough)….on the road at 7:30. We drove to Berlin Ichythosaurus State Park (Nevada). It was a long way from anywhere and remote (that is always a good thing for me).
We booked in for two nights ($30 total/no showers but we have one!) because it was so far from anything AND a really nice park. Pinion Pines and Junipers abound and that is beautiful thing. It is a small park with maybe 15 campsites….the longest they allow is 24 feets (and that is us). Mali is enjoying NOT being in the box (rv) and sunning.

This park (the Berlin part) has remnants of the old mining town of Berlin which operated roughly 1895 to 1911 (silver and gold). They’ve maintained it in a state of arrested decay….which pretty much means they don’t let it rot out but fix what is needed in an appropriate way. (Bodie, California was a much larger scale of this and we really liked that place). We walked around seeing the buildings. Also, they have a HUGH fossilized Ichthyosaur enclosed in a building. An Ichthyosaur is a marine dinosaur era beastie. Tomorrow we hope to get a tour of that Ichy. Curiously they are working on a dig this weekend with a paleontologist from Utah. There are 40 ichthyosaur discovered in the park…..so where in these 1540 acres are they hiding them! Initial one was discovered naturally by erosion.
