Day 32:
October 28, 2015: Horton Creek Campground, CA to Owens Valley,
CA
|
Our $5 campsite with awesome mountain backdrop |
Horton
Creek BLM Campground turned out to be pretty nice (cheap helps) in the
daylight. We took a walk around the
campground and found 49 campsites (way more than we thought). The dumpstation was closed (campground
closing in 2 days from now) but they had water for us to fill our tanks. Upon leaving we found a FREE pile by the
garbage station. We procured a 2015
Woodalls Campground guide (value $10), a shorter piece of hose to use as a
black tank flush hose (value?), and an unopened gallon of white vinegar ($3.49
value). You can guess where this is
going…our $5 campground was more than paid for by the goodies we acquired.
South
on California route 395 with Keough Hot Ditch as our destination (David’s hot
spring tour). Our arrival found us an
unoccupied pool (think very wide section of the stream) with a very comfortable
temperature. There is a paid Keough Hot
Spring up the road maybe ¼ mile so we get the runoff from that hot spring. It
was clean and we ended up trying out two of the four “pools”. A nice afternoon.

This more than paid for our campsite....free at the dumpster. |
Tonight’s
lodging is on a knoll off route 168 overlooking the Owens Valley off route
395….it fulfills the roll of scenic.
Let’s see how windy it gets tonight!
