Day 29:
Sunday, Oct 25: Bridgeport, Ca to Buckeye Hot Springs, CA
Awe-inspiring views from our boon docking spot |
Checked out Travertine Hot Springs today. It was a Sunday so it was pretty disappointingly crowded with people coming and going. The springs themselves were disappointing as well. At least a few tubs looked like they needed a good cleaning and no one was doing it (usually volunteers or people who spend time there). So no soak there. David said you needed to take a number to get into the hot tub.
Next we made our way to Buckeye Hot Springs only to find that despite this one being a bit more of a drive to get to, there were a lot of people there and a line to get in to the tub. Welcome to California! Despite the amount of people we decided to camp up in the Forest Service dispersed camping area.
So we are nestled beneath the pines and the wind howls….going down to 30 degrees tonight. The ride into Buckeye was an interesting—a steady climb on a washboard gravel road (half the ride was this). I thought: Sunday afternoon and the drive up would thwart more folks but NOPE. We found about 4 trailers up there and one was a big fifth wheel.
